Home and Playing on Seven Devils
We love exploring and all the adventures the High Country offers but we equally enjoy relaxing and being together at the Knob Hill Chalet.
Some of the most fun days are getting weathered-in (maybe not for the whole time -- but every once in a while). Knob Hill Chalet is high enough on the mountain that you can see the weather rolling in and out. Every time we visit, we stock the downstairs refrigerator with drinks and set up a family pool tournament. There are also plenty of books, board games, puzzles, chess, and checkers on both the upper and lower levels. The gas fireplace is an easy way to make things warm and cozy while watching a movie on TV, DVD, or VHS. There is also the Wii Console set for some family friendly competition. And when the weather is nice, there is plenty to enjoy right around the Knob Hill Chalet. Enjoy the hot tub under the stars on a clear night. Tell ghost stories or make s'mores around the firepit. Sit on the upper deck and relax as the sun sets. Watch for all sorts of nature's critters around the Chalet. And while we have never seen any, watch out for bears by keeping trash cans locked and not leaving any food outside. A favorite time to visit is in June with all the fireflies. Walking up the street with little moonlight (be sure to take a flashlight and keep together), fireflies put on a majestic light show like nothing we have ever seen. For a lovely morning walk or an easy picnic spot, Otter Falls trail is about 1 mile from the Knob Hill Chalet continuing up Skyland Drive. This wooded, short down hill trail (going in anyways) leads to a very pretty water fall and creek on Seven Devils. |
On warmer days, you also have access to the Seven Devils tennis courts and playground located just past the Otter Falls entrance.
The tennis courts and playground are on Grandfather Circle off of Skyland Drive and 3 tennis racquets are provided in the Knob Hill Chalet for guest use. Right on Seven Devils, less than 5 minutes up the road, is Hawks Nest Snow Tubing and ZipLining boasting some of the longest tubing runs and ziplines on the East Coast. |
